Name: Cole Lanier
Position Title: Social Media Committee Leader
Position Duties: I handle all the social media platforms for UA PRSSA. We use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Periscope.
What did you do in your position this semester?
I tweeted and posted about blog posts, events and meetings, and I also live-tweeted our meetings and events. The most important part of my job was providing information to our members. We also added Periscope to our meetings this year to make sure that members who couldn’t attend meetings wouldn’t miss any important information or helpful tips.
What qualities or characteristics does it take to do your position well?
You must be able to multitask a lot. Posting across multiple platforms can get confusing and difficult. I also recommend using Hootsuite to simplify things.
How much time did you dedicate to your position?
It just depended on what the schedule was like. For Regional Conference, I went hard, tweeting like a madman. But some weeks, I would just tweet out links to blog posts. It varied. Monthly meetings were my busiest times, first getting the word out about the meeting, and then live-tweeting and retweeting during the meetings themselves.
What would you like to go back and tell yourself before taking on this position?
Buckle up. It’s harder than you think it’ll be. Make sure you keep the committee involved.
How does your position fit in with or engage with the rest of the executive board?
I most closely work with Emily Clack, the Web director, and Bethany Corne, the publications committee leader, to put out links for our publications, as well as post general news updates about chapter events, such as fundraisers and surveys.
All blogs are written by general members of UAPRSSA and Capstone Agency.
