PRSSA Position: Social Media Committee Leader
Hometown: Birmingham, Alabama
If you won the lottery and never had to work again, how would you spend your time?
I would buy a cabin on a river in Alaska and fish, hike and kayak in the surrounding area all day, every day, then go to the Keys in the winter and do the same.
If you could start any new club or organization on campus, what would it be and why?
I would start a club on campus dedicated to naps. I enjoy taking naps and really think people would get on board with it. We’d either have a huge following or a really small one because people might think it’s weird.
What on-campus (including the strip) cuisine is your absolute favorite?
It isn’t quite on campus, but The Avenue Pub is my favorite place to eat around campus.
Who is your spirit animal?
My spirit animal is a combination of Liz Lemon, Chandler Bing and Andy Dwyer. I feel like I have Liz Lemon’s sense of humor and work attitude, Chandler Bing’s sarcasm (I feel very strongly about that one) and Andy Dwyer’s sort-of childlike playfulness and sense of adventure.
What has been your best learning experience in college, either in or out of the classroom?
My best learning experience was my internship this summer in Washington, D.C. It wasn’t necessarily the skills I learned while I was there; it was mostly learning how to be a professional. It’s incredibly different from being a student. I went up there wondering if I wanted to go the political PR route, and within a few weeks, I learned that I definitely wanted to follow that path, without a doubt.
What inspired you to choose PR as your major?
I wanted to do journalism when I decided to go to Alabama, but I chose PR after I followed around a media relations person for the athletic department for my high school’s senior day. I decided that what he was doing looked like a lot more fun than just writing articles.
What would be your dream job after graduation?
My dream job is to become White House press secretary/communications director.
