About us
WHO ARE WE?
The University of Alabama PRSSA Chapter (UA PRSSA) is a leading pre-professional organization for students interested in public relations, communications and other related fields. Students from all majors are encouraged to join in learning about the profession, networking with professionals and educators in the industry and sharpening their communication skills.
HISTORY
Since its establishment in 1970 as the Arlyn S. Powell Chapter, UA PRSSA has seen tremendous growth in its numbers and educational opportunities to its members. With more than 120 members today, the chapter size has more than doubled since its founding. The chapter has also hosted two Southeast Regional Conferences (February 2010 and January 2016). Members welcomed other PRSSA chapters throughout the Southeast to Tuscaloosa to participate in a variety of networking events and to hear from notable speakers. Our Bateman Team won the national competition in 2016.
OUR MISSION
To serve our members by enhancing their knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities and to serve the public relations profession by helping to develop highly qualified, well-prepared professionals.
MeMBership benefits
UA PRSSA strives to offer an enriching experience to its members by creating opportunities for students to get involved. Members can join committees, apply for national scholarships and seek career advice. The committees offer members the opportunity to improve their communication skills and add published samples to their portfolios. Committees include marketing, publications, promotions and social media. Capstone Agency, UA’s nationally affiliated student-run firm, is an additional benefit to members. Students are encouraged to apply to the agency to gain experience working with real clients.
