Exec Board Summary: Web Director

Name: Emily Clack Position Title: Director of Web-Based Communications Position Duties: My duties as the Web director include keeping the website up-to-date, promoting speakers and events, and posting weekly blogs.

What did you do in your position this semester? Beyond the typical duties, I redesigned our chapter’s website to make it more visually appealing and easier to navigate. Specifically, I added a new layout and a photo gallery. Additionally, I created a Regional Conference page to promote and inform people about The University of Alabama PRSSA 2016 Regional Conference that our chapter hosted in January.

What qualities or characteristics does it take to do your position well? The Web director must be organized and timely. Making sure the website has the most up-to-date information is essential.

How much time did you dedicate to your position? The time I dedicated to my position varied depending on what was going on within the chapter. For example, prior to Regional Conference, I was spending probably two to three hours per week adding to the website. At the beginning of the semester I was also probably spending about two or three hours per week working on the new layout and updating the executive and faculty headshots. However, regularly, I spend less than an hour a week editing and posting blogs and updating upcoming and past speakers and events.

What would you like to go back and tell yourself before taking on this position? Serving as the Web director has helped me stay timely and organized. It also gave me a chance to be creative, which I enjoyed. If there is one thing I would go back and tell myself, it would be to write everything down. I started doing this early on in the semester, and it helped me stay organized and remember everything I needed to do for the website. This would definitely be my advice to the next person to take on this position.

How does your position fit in with or engage with the rest of the executive board? It’s important for the Web director to engage with all executive members in order to stay up to date on what’s going on within the chapter. The Web director is always in close contact with the social media committee leader so that he or she can promote new blog posts and share posts that link to the website on the chapter’s social media outlets. The Web director also engages with the publications committee leader several times per week in order to access new blog articles.
